Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. They are specially trained in the unique dental health needs of children. Their professional education includes two or three years of additional training after becoming a dentist. Their training emphasizes child psychology, growth and development. Pediatric dentists often work with pediatricians to help a child stay healthy. This team approach best serves the needs of the child.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and our office recommend that your child visit the dentist six months after the eruption of their first tooth or by their first birthday. This initial appointment will focus on crucial parental oral hygiene and preventative care for the child.

Early examination will help in preventing diseases such as Early Childhood Caries (also known as Baby Bottle Tooth Decay or Nursing Caries) caused by prolonged nighttime or naptime feeding with a bottle or sippy cup.

Forming a positive relationship on an early basis with dental caregivers encourages a positive perception of dentistry on a lasting level.
